An attractive old seaside market town


For the last 6 years Korsør hosted tourists from 9 cruise ships. The town is situated around a harbour which for centuries has been an important part of its inhabitants' daily life. To move from the southern part of the town to the northern, or vice versa, citizens have to pass over a bridge which at certain times of the day will be raised in order to let ships in or out of the fiord. Boats, vessels, merchant ships and the occasional cruise liner are regular visitors.

The large shop holds a range of romantic gifts and special flowers, etc. The Café - for comfortable relaxation. For sale: Light meals, coffee, beer, etc.

The Marina

marinaSailing is a natural thing for the locals and many of them were probably only a few years old when their parents introduced them to life on board a pleasure boat. In the harbour there are berths for 450 boats along six landing stages, which means that a safe anchorage is always available. In summer the marina is buzzing with life, boats arriving and leaving from or to destinations in Denmark, Sweden and Germany.

The Landmark of Korsør

sprogoerWhether you arrive in Korsør by foot, bike, car or boat you cannot avoid seeing the impressive landmark, the suspension bridge across the Great Belt. Inaugurated in 1998 following the opening of the tunnel and the low bridge in 1997 it finalized the "Fixed Link" between Zealand and Funen. This link comprises the East Bridge, a 6790 m long suspension bridge between Zealand and the small island of Sprogø, a 6611 m long combined rail and road bridge between Sprogø and Funen and an 8000 m long immersed rail way tunnel between Zealand and Sprogø. – The bridge between Zealand and the isle of Sprogø is the largest suspension bridge in Europe.

Naval Base Korsoer

navalNaval Base Korsoer (OPLOG KOR) is a part of Admiral Danish Fleet, a modern establishment, especially designed to deal with matters and incidents Denmarks geographical position by the sea dictates. OPLOG must meet all operational units requirements for logistic support, national as well as international.

The Guard Hussar

husarThe guard hussar regiment's mounted squadron is a special unit. Their primary task is to place mounted escorts and commando forces at the service of the regent, and to train the guard hussars for various functions in the mobilisation force, such as riflemen, nursing assistants, etc.

The mounted squadron's history, traditions and uniforms can be traced back in a direct line to the Hussar Regiment set up by King Frederik V on 10 February 1762, in order to have a light mobile cavalry to face the Cassacks in the impending war with Russia.
